Very first outing, very first meal in Goa, had to be special. After looking up online for some options finalized Bay 15 – Panaji Goa. And boy, the place is wonderful, be it food or the seaside location.
We were looking for nonveg that is other than the regular chicken we get everywhere in Mumbai. Fish, prawn pork, was on our mind.
Everything on the menu was tempting… It was great to read about other nonveg than butter chicken, chicken handi & kadhai, chicken curry. So, it took us sometime to narrow down the choice and once we placed the order, we happily spent the next 15 mins looking around the very scenic restaurant and clicking some mandatory family pics much to the chagrin of the kids. You really need to visit this place during the day. The view is breath taking and the weather in Oct is perfect for sit-outs.
We ordered a mezze platter – Hummus & Moutabel were fresh, light and well flavored. It turned out to be a good choice as its mild flavors contrasted against the other dishes which were very spicy by our standards.
The next dish was Pork Chili Fry. True to its name it made our tongues burn. But we do eat less spicy food so it was a good challenge for us to finish it. But make no mistake, we enjoyed every bite of it.
Then was the Chonnak Fillet with Indian masala and tava fried. Man-o-man, this was spicy and made my heart sing. I loved every bite of it. The accompanying salad too matched the main dish’s heat. Kept eating bites of pita and hummus to manage the heat of the fish. But didn’t leave any morsel on the plate.
Butter garlic prawns were mild and flavorful which the kids enjoyed.
The service was good, servers were attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed. There was laughter and chatter constantly accompanied by the gently lapping waves. The location is such an advantage to this restaurant. Part of me didn’t want to leave, the other part obviously wanted a siesta after such a scrumptious meal.
It’s a good ‘XL’ sized restaurant, even then table booking would be a good idea. Though when we entered the restaurant around 1 pm, it was fairly empty but by the time we left around 2.30 pm, it had almost filled up. And there is fair bit of parking space so if you are driving no issues. Also, they have their own banquet facility, making it a very interesting celebratory venue.
Do check out Bay 15 if you are in North Goa. And if you are looking for something more rustic and earthy check out Edward’s Yard.
I suddenly have a craving to visit Goa
Lets do it together.
